Tires

Does anyone know the Mileage rating for the tires offered on the Cooper S?

I am interested to know if the "All Season" tires are rated to last longer than the "Performance" tires.

This information may help me decide on which wheels I should get.

I'm curious if anyone tosses the runflats right away and gets REAL summer tires.

sorry to hijack the thread.

All season should last longer simply becuase if differant rubber compounds and varying tread patterns.

Check out Tire Rack for more info.

Tires will last as long as you let them; I've learned that from experience! If you drive aggressive, they will wear quicker; the rating is typically their resistance to wear. A rule of thumb I go by is to add two zeros to the end of the treadwear rating number, and expect that to be the best absolutely possible if you don't drive over 5/10ths. The stock tires on the MINI's will last anywhere from 10-20k miles typically [I think that sounds about right]. I'm usually happy to get 10k out of a set of tires on the MINI, but then I also run softer [summer only or DOT race] compounds than your average medium-performance all-season.

As far as mileage ratings go, they're not exactly comparable between manufacturers. What a manufacturer defines as a "280" rating may be comparable to "180" for another. What are directly comparable are the temp and [wet] traction ratings, "AA" being the best for [wet clean pavement] traction [longitudinal, not laterally] and "A" best for [traction at low] temp.

Alright I've rambled on enough, I hope that helped a bit
Cheers,
Ryan

If you value mileage over performance, go all-season.
That said, in San Diego, you shouldn't see much snow.

Doesn't matter...

...when you drive like me! If you are worried about getting the most miles out of your tires, then that means no fun. No doing curves at twice what the little sign says, no quick accelerating or braking. *yawn*

Tossed mine in the garage after the 36 mile trip home from the dealership.

I find with runflat tires, wearing out quickly is a good thing! You'll hate yourself if you have to keep them for a long, long time. (On the other hand, I've had great times trying to wear out my stock runflats!)
