6 Disc CD Changer-Dash Mounted?

Talked to my Mini rep today, ordered my car on 12/30/06 to see if I had a production # yet, I still do not. Says it's becuase I got an Automatic. Probably also cause I want the HiFi package. Anyhoot, he tells me there is a new 6 disc CD player thats coming with the HiFi package (Dash Mounted). Can some of you check with your Reps to see if this is the case? I was not ordering the changer as an option, but I will take it if it's being included.

My understanding is the Audio package may be delayed until summer because of Sirus issues. You can get the HiFi sound system on it's own without the Audio Pkg.

My Rep has heard nothing about the Sirius package delay as of yet, so he's told me.

Straight from my MA, I believe it is more of a legal issue, so it could be a few weeks or several months.

The Hi-Fi package itself is not causing delays, at least not in the US. I think you might have meant the Audio package?

The Audio package is delayed until March, which adds a lifetime SIRIUS subscription, HD radio, and the Hi-Fi sound sytem, but the Hi-Fi sound system itself is available.

The CD changer is in the "Accessories" category, which supposedly is all dealer-installed stuff. It's unavailable with no ETA shown, like the iPod adapter. The nice thing about that is the implication that it can be added later by the dealer.

But...I suppose it's possible that they could, when they announce the availability of the Audio Package, include the CD changer in that package.

The CD changer is said to be in the Glove box according to the MINI manual. (image from MINI2)

The picture below is from the UK site. I think the more interesting thing is that it appears to be a DIN slot that may accomodate other aftermarket components.

It's in a space above the glove box, the pic in the post above shows this nicely, the glove box is below the blue colour line.

PS the space is not here by default on all cars, only those with the storage pack or the CD changer.

I don't know about that. I looked at one at the Houston Auto Show and it had the space although there was nothing in it.

Also have confirmed with another who went to the show looking for an Aux Input, that it couldn't be found anywhere on the dash or in the glove box.

R56.
I think some if not all of the features in the UK storage pkg option are standard in the US version.
The 12v plug in the cargo are is also standard in the US, not sure what else.

It looks like really a great little space for add-ons.
There shouldn't be any issues adding a changer at a dealer that I can think of. I also read that it isn't the old tray type so should be easier to load.
I would imagine that if the changer has access to the head unit from there it would be easy to have the aux or other connection for the MP3 players/ipods. Just speculation but I don't see a down side to it.

The mini site configurator says "10 spkr hi fi system" and the pricing and full equipment list says "HiFi Cd Audio System 10 Upgraded Speakers". That UK pic of the CD player looks sweet. I'm In!!!

I agree the CD changer seems a waste -- an iPod is much less money.

I think all R56 MINI include a single disc CD player in the head unit (both HiFi and base systems). The picture is the separate optional 6 disc CD changer. Nowadays, CD changers are pretty much obsolete because of iPods, MP3 players, and MP3 CDs.

I have seen pictures of the space where the 6-disc CD changer is located. If you don't order it, you will have an extra little storage space. I need the storage space...
