Help! Turbo over heating when engine shut off changed everything!

Hi everyone

I am really hoping someone on here can help me out. I've got a mini cooper S R56 that is suffering from an extremly hot turbo even after a short 5 minute drive around the block under normal if not extremly slow driving conditions.

I have recently replaced the cylinder head and gasket, thermostat and water pump, auxiliary pump also. Relocated the air filter system and the coolant resvior to bring the air filter to the front of the car for better air flow, radiator is fine as is the intercooler. Coolant has been bled through properly, timing chain has been done, as well as the tensioner. Regular oil changes, new vaccum pump, rear main seal done, After changing all of this I still have this turbo overheating problem and I can't work out why? Had a mechanic go over the turbo, he said its fine as has been reinforced? Has anyone ever shared the same experience and solved the mystery or is this normal? The hood gets extremly hot after a few minutes of shut down. Any ideas?

Thanks

@J4Y-R56 ,

Did the check engine light come on after auxiliary pump has been changed out? How do you really know that your turbo is overheating? Hot to the touch is not a good way of determining that your turbo is over heating? Did your cooling can fan stay on for a good 5 or 10mins after shutting the car off? You may need to check the engine temperature cooling sensor pigtail that is located on top of the thermostat housing. I’ve had issues with the pigtail connector not making contact causing the fan to stay on forever. Let me know.

Yeah, what temperature is it at? What do you think it should be at? What have you done to help prevent it from getting so hot?
My hood gets warm, but I removed the heat shields as well when I did my downpipe. My downpipe is ceramic coated by Jethot, and my new turbo exhaust housing is coated by Swaintech. I have not been able to measure my new turbo. But the downpipe dropped about 50 degrees to about 250 degrees after a 30 minute drive. And my old turbo was getting as hot as 750 degrees after a spirited drive
