I was just wondering should the auxiliary water pump run every time the engine is turned off, or only when turbo is at certain temp? I have just finished putting car back together after doing turbo oil feed and oil cooler gaskets. I ran the car at idle for about 20 mins to bleed coolant and check for leaks but when I turned the car off the auxiliary water pump did not kick in. Im worried I may have broken something as I took the pump off whilst doing the filter and cooler gaskets

No expert on this, but doesn't that pump cool the turbo? If so and you only idled the car then the turbo wouldn't be in use, so no need to cool.

well that does sound feasible, but I don't know if the system is clever enough to know the turbo not hot and just does same cycle every time car is turned off

 

Its only rans after shut down when the engine is warmed up to temp. Its kicks on also on hot days and when the a/c is used alot.

You should hear it. I say drive it around for a while then shut down and listen.
