MCS - Inlet Camshaft Sensor fault and rough idle?

Hi everyone, have a 2007 MCS N14 engine which generally drives and performs 100% apart from a very slight rough idle and an intermittant 2968 (P0341) Inlet camshaft position fault code. When I say intermitant, it can crop up within say 30 to 100 miles of driving after clearing. I've also noticed it backfires abit more than previous N14 engines I've driven and runs abit rich. Would this suggest timing? I've already replaced Vanos Solenoid, cat Sensors, cleaned the intake valves and serviced. Thanks in advance!

how many miles? was the chain kit ever replaced? did you check the sensor itself if it's plugged right or faulty?
