Air bag light on after seat removal for carpet shampoo

Hey everyone,

did some research within already and think I may have an idea of what is going on but want a gut check before moving forward.

I pulled my passenger seat out to shampoo the carpet and after I reinstalled the seat and plugged it back in it’s giving me these lights.

I thought it might be a fuse if some water shorted the plug but can’t find where a fuse for it would be and no burnt fuses.

I have no codes so thinking maybe the weight sensor just decided to go out when I pulled it out.

Before I buy the bypass, does anyone think it could be something else?

There should be a stored code. What are you using to check for codes? Did you reconnect all connectors and not mix them up?

I’m using a cheap OBD Link MX+

Yeah, I only unplugged the main yellow harness under the seat. I pulled it back apart and reconnected. Double checked the other plugs too.

The act of unplugging the connector may have set the airbag code but it's no longer active. In this case, clearing the code may solve the problem.

I use Veepeak BLE with this app, which can read and clear Mini codes. What car app do you use?

Tried clearing the codes this am, no luck. Still
getting the light. Might look into the app and code reader you use.

First of all, before removing the seat, you should have disconnected the battery.
You need BMW app that can specifically clear SRS light. Not all does it.

Then how would I listen to the radio while I was cleaning the carpet?

Just joking but you’re right, was lazy and skipped that step.

So it needs to go to a dealership?

If you like to do your own repairs, just buy an app that reads and clears Mini/BMW codes. The Car Runner ELM app cost me only $7.
