Leaving for work this morning, went to accelerate and lost 90% of power. Car started sounding like a lawn mower, like it was blowing bubbles. Best way to describe it. Opened the engine, oil puddles up next to the ignition coils and all over the plastic on the valve cover. I put some pictures of it, if anyone wants to hear what it sounds like I can send them a video of it if they pm me their number. I’m hoping it’s the valve cover. What does everyone else think? Please and thank you.

Need some more info if you can provide. Did it happen all of a sudden or when you started the car up in the morning? Did you hear any sounds right before it happened? Is there any lights on the dash or icons in the tach?

It happened very suddenly. As I went to accelerate out of work it just lost all power and made and really weird noise as I tried to accelerate. No sounds before it happened and no lights on the dash yet. Definitely not drivable tho. It moves but very sluggish.

Sounds like the timing chain. Any codes?

If timing chain, does that explain the oil puddles, or are those just coincidence? Is there a way for them to check the timing chain by only taking the plastic valve cover/PCV off?

I would have guessed something related to the PCV system. The "PoP" could have been due to pressure in the crankcase, and it now runs terrible due to a system leak somewhere.

Genuine valve cover upper and lower piece separated or cracked is my guess. I have seen the genuine MINI ones crack and Hiss. But I guess they could crack and sperate from the friction weld.

not sure. does sound like one or more cyl may be misfiring. Shortly before all my problems I noticed oil pooling in the spark plug area.

My car lit up like a Christmas tree when the chain slipped. Had to have some piston work, chain ect.

I’ll definitely check out my timing chain when I pull the cover off.
