2013 JCW - corrosion on roof near windscreen

Cleaning my R56 (2013 JCW) I’ve noticed some corrosion around the trim between the roof and windscreen - seems to span the length of the screen.

Anyone else suffer this - is it common / uncommon?

Anywhere else to check?

Never seen that on the R56. Got a picture?

On Gen 2 MINIs the subframe and rear subframe rust. Have not seen people report rust on the body yet.

Never seen that. Have you had a windshield replaced? That's the windshield correct?

When they do the windshield they will use a tool to cut the old window seal out and replace the glass. When they do this they could rub the paint off under that seal and with age the roof could rust since water and salt could get under the seal a little.

Not to my knowledge - and I’ve owned the car since 2017. Though certainly possible before then?

Ok, thats my guess since its up front like that. Or an aftermarket seal that rubbed the paint? I have seen windshield repair places not order the genuine part from us for that top seal and just get a universal with a cheap aftermarket (Non MINI branded) window. That could be causing it. Either way i would have some body shop look at it, otherwise it will really rust down the road.

Now i look at it again it looks like that seal is short (universal style) and rubbing the roof.

Do you happen to have a part number for this seal? *edit - is it 51317155304?

Is it something that can be replaced without specialist tools?

Thats require connection to the top of the glass, if the sealant (wind weld is on it its really hard to replace) any safelight or window place can maybe do it for you as they have tools.
