I recently had to replace my footwell module because my headlights, turn signals, power windows, etc. stopped working. I've replaced it and all that works again but now my stock Bi-Xenon lights aren't working correctly.
Ever since I replaced the FRM some of my ambiance light colos are gone, I can't adjust the brightness on them, and my Bi-Xenon lights aren't adjusting as they normally were. The just stay stuck, pointing down. The only coding help I've found online is for people that are trying to retrofit xenon lights for their car but my Mini came with them stock. I was wondering if anybody has any pointers for coding it back to the original way through BimmerCode or Carly because with the new footwell module it's set to halogen lights.

Make sure everything is connected properly down there. I have factory xenon too. Long story short, I installed the factory LED fogs. Couldn’t get them to work properly with the halo ring. Also had some other things wigging out on it. Sent the module out to speedofix I believe for them to fix any codes, relearn everything. Got it back after a few days, same thing, didn’t change. Went back through everything and the plugs actually weren’t making a connection somehow. So I put some dielectric grease and made sure to connect them properly and right. That was the fix.

Since yours is not a retrofit you need to recode the FRM to what is stored in your VO. Easiest way is to perform the following.

1. Load NCSExpert
2. Load Profile and select Expertmodus Werkseinsteillung
3. F1 (VIN/ZCS/FA)
4. F3 (ZCS/FA f .ECU)
5. Choose R56
6. Select CAS
7. F6 (BACK)
8. F4 (Process ECU)
9. Select the Module to Revert back to Stock (In your case FRM)
10. F2 -> Choose "SG_Codieren"->OK
11. F3-> To start coding the ecu with factory settings according to the vehicle VO

Remove key for 30 seconds then power back up and you should be good to go.

 

Before step 10, you need to select FA_Write

Then proceed with step 10.

Beware That some modules might've been updated and when you do step 10, it would show FMR2. If that's the case, you need to bench flash it with the right pflash and eeprom. After that you can go through the steps mentioned above.

 

Good catch My instructions above only cover reseting an ecu to it's factory state.

 

Not sure if it is a problem yet or not. I have been working on my wrecked R58 and last night when I opened the door for the 1st time in weeks, I found the battery discharged. I am not sure how long it has been this way. I know if they are without power for extended periods, this can cause issues with the FRM.

If my FRM memory is gone, do these same steps apply to my R58?

I wouldn't borrow any problems just yet. You're probably ok. Lots of Mini's through the years have had dead batteries and the FRM is fine. I'd have the battery capacity checked and top charged before reconnecting it then see whats up. If it acts wiggy then yes I'd try the above. If it's dead then you can buy a used one and clone it. I do that for clients fairly often. Pretty sure MiniToBe can provide this service as well.

 

Not trying to "borrow" any, just the way my luck has been running as of late. I have the battery on charge since last PM. I will test it with my load tester this PM, if good connect it and see.

Thankfully, no issues. Back to fixing what is left to get it back on the road.

 

I would also recommend removing the ecu relay to minimize the electrical shock to the system.

In case a service is needed, i do provide those plus other serivces like ecu and Cas cloning and keyfob programming.
