Plastic cap in differential (automatic tranny)

Hi!

I have been fighting with the cv joint stuck in my tranny for a few days now and feel like I might have been broken the tranny now :-(

The CV joint on the drivers side is still stuck in my transmission and I tried numerous ways to get it out there. I tried one prybar, two of them and also drilled holes into the joint and put a bolt through them and used a chain to pull the cv joint out. That didn’t work so far. Last thing I did today was to use a long bolt with a hammer to stab from the passenger side through the differential to push the cv joint on the other side out. But after trying a few times I looked into the differential and realized that I hit and at least deformed a kind of plastic cap in there. Does anybody know anything about that plastic cap between the two axles in the differential?

I suspect I should replace it, after I get the cv joint out - whenever that is….

I don’t have any pictures, yet. But I will take some tomorrow.

Any help is appreciated!
