R56 Trip Odometer MIA
Trip Odometer MIA
I've searched for Trip Odometer missing and have found numerous hits that point to the battery, but let me outline:
When i bought the car a month ago, the car had been sitting and I removed the battery to check and charge it. After putting it back, the Trip Odo was zero - understood. NBD
My Dealer gave me an Interstate battery at his cost less 50% under the warranty provisions. After installing it, the Trip Odo was zero - understood. NBD
The battery has not been adapted. I was looking for a IBS, but my car only has a positive cable junction box.
My Bimmercode OBDII dongle is arriving shortly.
1. Should I register my battery?
2. Is there coding that someone knows of to give a quick answer about restoring the Trip ODO?
Thanks!

Not sure I follow what question you are asking... Are you asking how to restore the "Trip" odometer? If so, you can't. Remove the battery, it goes to zero - that's just how it is. Install the battery, and motor on.
Now, if the "Vehicle" odometer is going to zero... that means there is a MUCH bigger issue going on...

The vehicle Odometer is not going to zero. I might take back my comments about the Trip Odo. When I got the car and filled the tank and reset the TO, then afterwards removed and re-installed the battery after charging it, the TO was zero.
Why I'm confused is I swear the TO was to the right of the Odometer. I had a CEL and the dealer replaced the Thermostat Housing and pipe. Now the TO is above the Odometer, and is part of the cycling by way of the stalk button.
The repair was done at my dealer's in-house mechanic and he only cleared the DTC. I was under the impression this TO was a "miles since starting the car" like I had on my other cars, but my MC does not have this.
I put 128 miles since installing the battery, the the TO reads 27 right now, and does not change if I press the reset button.
Hmmm...

The trip odometer is not "miles since starting the car," it is "miles since last reset."
Also, yes, two presses of the "Trip 0.0" button for reset.
Do you have the multifunction radio display with navigation, or the standard radio/speedometer display? The odometer display in the tach is different for the two models, but as far as I know, the trip odometer is always part of the display cycle, not next to the vehicle odometer.

I have the standard speedo/radio. You are right. Seems two presses reset it, but, in the manual:
P56) "Resetting the trip odometer
With the ignition switched on, press **** 3 in the tachometer."
Trip odometer
To display trip recorder: Briefly press button 3.
Resetting the trip odometer:
While the trip recorder is displayed and the ignition is switched on, press button 3.
So, while not calling out a double button press, the manual does clarify “while the trip recorder is displayed,” press to reset.
Glad you got it all figured out.

I was quoting the 2011 PDF manual I have for reference. What page are you taking that from? I get it. I have the Odometer and Trip recorder displayed always. It's a habit. I like to log my MPG using the Trip Odometer and gallons filled.
Thanks!

I do the same as you and log my fuel mileage, but I keep the outside temperature displayed 98% of the time
