2007 Mini Cooper S Turbo Fuel Injector Help

About 2 weeks ago my Mini Cooper started having some issues starting in the morning. it would start and then died right away. On some mornings it would do this like 4 or 5 times. After it started to run it seemed ok. Maybe not as smooth Idle but runs good. So I decided it need a some parts to help it run better. I put on new fuel pump assembly, fuel filter and new NGK Iridium plugs. After all that it still seems to have the same starting problem. it was better for like 2 days and now it is back to doing it again. I did some research and found some people saying this could be caused by bad or dirty fuel injectors. Since this car has some other performance upgraded I decided if I was going to have to get new injectors I would try and buy some with a little bit more CC's to them. But I have not had great luck in finding anything for the R56 motor. It seems everything I can find is for the R53. So I have 2 questions. The first one is does it sound like the injectors could be causing my issues? And where is a good source for performance injectors? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Did you replace the High Pressure Fuel Pump or just the pump in the tank? There are injectors that will work but you have to cut the fuel rail to make them fit. Even then its not worth it since the HPFP has no head room for fuel flow. There is a couple of companies that are working on making a upgraded HPFP for this platform, but who knows when they will come out.

ok. I see there is a high volume pump connected to the camshaft. I did not even think to look for a second pump. I need to figure out a way to test because it is pretty pricey and I don't want to just replace it if it is not bad. Do you know any way to test the pressure?

If you have a obd2 bluetooth reader you can get the torque app and can look at the fuel rail pressure. Anything below 700ish psi at idle its bad. So like if its showing 500psi the hpfp is bad. Normally will get a code related to it as well when it kicks the bucket.

Looks like they recently "dropped" in price. I see them for around $550. Don't be tempted to buy a Chinese knock off. Won't work for long.

I put my scan tool on it this morning and the set point is 725 and the actual as it was running went from about 681 to 725. That does not sound line a low PSI to me. What is the normal operating PSI?

Have you monitored fuel rail pressure while cold-starting it --- what is it before, during cranking, and after starting? What performance mods have been done and which NGK's did you install?

I scanned the pressure this morning during the cold start and the PSI was only 175. I am assuming that is to low??? I found a pump on Amazon with really good reviews for $500. Has anyone used this pump? Let me know.

Thank you.

Only OEM. Save yourself the trouble.

Don't worry too much about the high pressure hose and use the old one. Just make sure to get a craw foot socket set and torque it properly.

Reading the Amazon description should steer you straight to a reputable merchant.

I got the new fuel pump and my pressure it running really good and the car starts really good but after running for a little bit it starts misfiring. When I put the scan tool on it it is misfiling from 3 of the 4 cylinders. I just put a bland new set of NGK iridium plugs when I was trouble shooting my starting issue. Has anyone had any issues running the iridium plugs? Any help would be appreciated in my I might be misfiring.

NGK Iridium plugs seem to be the most popular for the '07MCS. Mine came stock with NGK5992 which was discontinued and replaced with NGK97968. Check with the NGK website for current part numbers --- https://www.ngk.com IF your engine isn't modded too much, otherwise you'll need a colder heat range plug. I'm using NGK iridium heat range 10 plugs --- heavily modded!

Any codes besides misfiring? All kinds of problems can cause a misfire, including timing.
