Can't get the OBD connected

Hello guys,

Been on the forum since I got my Mini (2008 R56 JCW 211hp). But I never registered, only read topics and got great tips on most of them.
But now I've got some real issues.

Main story is, my car does stutter on low-speeds. It looks like it is going to stall, but it never did. It looks like an air/fuel issue. To much fuel, or too less. Anyway, I changed the Spark plugs, cleaned the MAF. Didn't made a difference. But I didn't do anything else. I want to know the source of the problem first. I can't keep buying stuff in the hope it might go away.

Problem is, I can't get anything connected to my OBD port. I have a Veepeak OBD scan tool, doesn't connect. Also have a K Dcan cable with INPA, doesn't connect either. I checked the OBD fuse, it's good. The leds light up when I do connect them to the port, but nothing else. Does anyone have a good idea? Because I am lost atm.

First off BMW/Mini are very finicky about OBD scanners. You need to get a Mini specific code reader. If you are anywhere near Panama City Beach, Florida I'd be happy to run your codes. Do you have a check engine light now?

One issue that many times gets overlooked with a stumble in the idle is the lowly PCV valve. Vacuum leaks often cause a bad idle. I had a torn diaphragm on my PCV valve on my 2011 Mini Cooper S and I had a minor stumble at idle. However there was also a slight whistle noise when not in boost. This whistle noise sounded a lot like the turbo spooling up or down. You can get a PCV valve repair kit for very cheap.

I don't know if this is your issue but it's another cheap direction to look into.

Well many thanks for you reply. I am a bit off the grid to be exact, I live in the Netherlands so a visit is not really likely.

Funny fact is that my car is imported from the US. It has still the H13 headlights, I am looking replacing them for more common H4, but the insides of the headlights is different than the versions used in the EU. They do not have that metal brackets that hold the bulbs.

I do not have a check engine light, don't know if that's good or bad. I might look into the PCV valve. But I got the N14 engine, didn't see any YouTube videos on replacing the valve there. Only for the N18. I also have a spare air filter, don't know if replacing helps. The one in the car doesn't look that bad.
I will see what I can do about the OBD port.. I did read some things about a faulty FRM module?
