I have a code P173b and the car won’t turn over. Originally the lights would come on but couldn’t get engine going. Said coolant temp (code). Noticed it was empty so I filled it. Tried to restart it but still nothing and now the lights are bugging out a little more.

does anyone have any info on this or help?

 

Won't turn over as in does not crank at all? Or it cranks but doesn't starts?

What year, auto or manual, base or S?

 

won’t start at all now. Automatic S, 2008.

 

How's the battery?

Mini's are very picky about how good the battery is, a low battery can do all kinds of strange things.

 

I tried jumping it. Nothing. Sometimes the lights come on sometimes nothing. Each time I try something new happens.

 

Mine acted that way when the ground for some reason was loose on the battery. It seemed tight but if I wiggled it I could hear the car start making noise. after that was fixed it worked ok .

when it was acting up I would randomly get lights on the dash then the car wouldn't start until I popped the hood and wiggled the ground wire.

how low was the coolant?

 

hmm I didn’t check wire I’ll do that. Coolant was very very low

 

Maybe see if you can bleed the coolant to make sure its topped off and clear the code and see if it comes back.

 

Wires were fine. I juiced the battery and it made the lights stay on and interior functions work for a few minutes longer but still won’t start, I get a light that looks like a Speedo with an exclamation point and then sometimes just a solid exclamation point too.

also when I turn everything off and walk away from the car it sounds like the fans start running in the car even tho everything is off and I’m away from the car.
