R56 how to test charging of key fob?
how to test charging of key fob?
Hi. I replaced the battery in my R56 FOB. I'm pretty sure I did a good job without damaging anything. The battery lasted about a month. Now it's dead. Anyone know how to tell if it has to do with the induction charger? It looks like my only other idea is to replace the battery again, and see if the same thing happens.
Anyone know if an induction phone charger will work on the FOB?
Thanks

It's very easy to damage the battery from the heat of the soldering iron. At the factory the tabs are soldered to the circuit board first and then the battery is spot welded on the tabs.
Even though spot welding creates a higher temperature than soldering, the heat is concentrated into such a small area and dissipates so quickly that it doesn't make its way into the battery where it can cause damage.

Thanks for the reply. I will be replacing the battery again. I'll also add that I'm pretty good with a soldering iron. The battery I used had the leads spot welded, so I only soldered the tabs to the board. I think I was pretty careful so as not to put too much heat into the system. I'll try to be even more careful next time
