2013 R56 base cooper. Power window motor will not stop turning

So yesterday I found smoke pouring out of my door.
It smelled electrical so I ripped the battery out, took apart the door and found that the driver side window motor was insanely hot.

I managed to make it to my local junk yard and pulled a replacement window motor. I plugged it in and the issue became obvious, the window motor is stuck on, and is pushing the window up constantly

This happens even if the car is off and the keys are out, even if the car door is locked.

I also found that if I push the down button while the car is on, the motor will suddenly stop for a half second, then continue turning in the up direction.

Any ideas, my first thought is dead footwell module but I am unsure, and I know that is the most expensive possibility

Also if i open the door the window doesn't go down, it continues turning up

when you say the window controller, are we talking about the switches themselves?

I should clarify as well about what I mean when I say the car is off and it still turns.

I could leave the car locked over night, come back and just unlock it, plug the motor in and it starts turning as soon as the wires get connected.
same if I lock myself in the car the motor still spins.

if I unplug the battery and plug it back in I think it does the same thing, starts turning immediately after the battery is reconnected

yes the one in the front middle....it seems there is a short in the positive wire somewhere.

Look up the wiring diagram in newtis.info

once you locate that wire, check if it is shorted to positive.

I'll give that a look, I originally ruled that out because it doesn't stop even if the car is turned off with no keys in it, but maybe I am misunderstanding how it operates.

Thank you for the site btw I am shy of resources and have been using a Haynes manual but the wiring diagrams are pretty darn vague in it.

I'll maybe carefully tear it apart this weekend to minimize damage. Maybe pull a spare from the junkyard while I am at it and anything else related so I can easily go down the line and rule out everything.

I'll update as soon as I test it out
Thanks
