Power Window issue

I have a 2002 Cooper with a power window issue on the driver's side.

When I try to activate the window, you can hear the reactive click in the door from the switch...but no response from the window.

Things I have verified:

1. The motor is receiving power...I disconnected the power - and put a volt meter on it - and it read normal.

2. The window is sitting properly on the track, all cabling seems to be intact.

The motor does seem to be abnormally hot.

The strangest thing, is that every couple months - the window will randomly start working perfectly. These periods of time are anywhere from a couple hours...to 2 days. However it always goes back to no response, and stays that way for months at a time.

I took the door panel off - and everything looks good - there doesn't appear to be a seam to allow you to get at the motor without major disassembly.
Has anyone had this repair done? I'm trying to avoid a hefty bill - but it doesn't seem like it can just be swapped out. I'm not very mechanical when it comes to cars.

any helpful comment would be appreciated

Thanks!

The motor is probably going bad, might want to post in the first gen section though, they might have more experience in this model car.
