R56 Throttle Hangs - Diverter Valve?
Throttle Hangs - Diverter Valve?
Hey guys, I have a 2012 MCS and sometimes the throttle randomly hangs when I blip the throttle while sitting still. Basically I rev it up to around 2k RPMs and when I let off of the pedal (the pedal isn't sticking, it follows my foot all the way up) and the RPMs hang around 2k. It only lasts for about a second, but it happens infrequently enough that I can't replicate it on a whim. That being said, my upgrades are all bolt-ons and include upgraded intake, bigger intercooler, and a straight pipe exhaust. Outside of removing the CATs, I've done nothing else that should throw a CEL. I don't remember this ever happening before I removed the CATs, but that was the only thing that came to mind as it's the only thing that I've changed that would significantly alter the way the ECU processes how the engine needs to run.
As I mentioned in the title, a thought occurred and as this is my first turbo car I'm not terrible familiar with diverter/BOVs. From what I understand, it's a rubber diaphragm that ends up being a wear item. If it fails, or starts to, it might make sense that it doesn't fully let the air out of the system as it needs to and continues to add air pressure to the engine which may cause it to not rev down. This assumption is literally just that, as I have no familiarity with them, but if any of you guys that have messed with turbos/BOVs before have any input please let me know.
I do plan to get a tune (RPM stage 2 from MarioKart is the plan) once we've paid off a few of our expenses that popped up, and I know that can let the car ignore the lack of CATs but idk if it will fix this hang or make it worse.
