Its been awhile since i posted here and glad this community is still going strong not like the Lotus forum. Well the kids are now going college and my R53 is going to my youngest son. I want to pick up a R56 for myself and its a 2009. I've read issues with the older R56 engine and wondering if swapping to the later (2011) engine is a straight swap. Has any of you done this swap? Pls chime in because i want to be sure that its possible before i purchase this 2009 MCS JCW. Thank you.

 

The Engine Control Unit and the wiring harness are different on the N18 engine cars. If you want a N18 engined MINI, buy one!
The N14 MINI engine isn't bad, I have one that has been trouble free since I purchased it new.

It's not going to be a straight swap as the wiring, ECU, and coding and programming are all going to be different. So even if you got it in and running you will always be dealing with issues of the car communicating with the DME to make things work correctly.
