Looking for brake suggestions for a R56 Cooper S that will be a performance street car. Eventually the track but just for now looking for something that will work great for the street. The GP2 kit is about $4200, Wilwood about half that. Are the Wilwood's any good?

 

Have you thought about posting this in the Gen1 Mod area? I say that as my Gen1 JCW front brakes are what you are running on your Gen2 S. There are several members that track their Gen1 JCWs and should be able to offer some good insight.

But if you just need something for daily use just get some EBC reds and run them till you are ready for track use. Then can get track pads or a brake kit at that time.

Way Motor Works website is not accessible by anyone outside the USA. I'm in Canada and used to buy from Way, but I can't do that anymore. He does business with US folks only. International shipping and returns can be a royal PITA. I understand if he doesn't deal internationally anymore

lots of folks here with Wilwoods, also do a search for TCE performance, they are a vendor here at NAM.

Way won't deal with international customers, he's been ripped off too many times. It sucks for the honest people outside the US but I completely understand.

 

Wilwood makes good stuff. Very widely used in hot rods and modified vehicles.

MINI brakes are over engineered given the weight of the car .... you really don't need to change much for street use and even light track.

The OE pad material is soft and hence 'dirty' but gets good grab. Rotors are 'soft' too, and wear out fast as compared to many other cars ... but soft pads and soft rotors = great grab .....

For street use slotted or drilled rotors are bling

EBC pads are an easy yet effective step up. I used greens for a while until I tried reds (when they became available) and I understand why WAY recommends them. I'm a nanny driver, but these are a super low dust pad as compared to OE ... in addition to hangin' there in spirited use.

(my opinions are based on regular reading of the posts on this board for A LONG time ... and my experiences on my cars)

 

Totally agree I'm running EBC Greens up front and just installed EBC Reds with new disks in the back. Going to all Reds once the front pads and disks need replacing
