Oil requirement change

RIP Mobil 1 0W-40 European Formula. That oil ran everything. BMW LL-01 has pulled its rating. I called Mobil to confirm. Then called dealer. The dealer is switching from 5W-30 to 0W-30 new bodies get it already once old stock is burned old bodies will receive it. Basically as of now their is no BMW LL-01 A3/B4 formula readily available aside from the dealer. Castrol Edge has a 0W-30 comming but not in stores. Sad Sad Day! Although I'm sure Mobil 1 will still work and old stock is available theirs no clear explanation for the change. So it's up to you to continue to use it.

LL stands for long life. I change every 5000 so no worries here. I'll continue to run it.

I will also continue to run the Mobil 1 0w40, until I hear a bunch of guys changing to something else. Oil and filter every 5k from 21k to 76k, no issues so far. MINI OEM filters, always.

Same regimen here, only Castrol Edge 5W30 for the past 4 or 5 years.

Maybe we should create a database for oil selection? I am happy with my Mobil1 0w40. Sorry, did I just start another oil discussion? Let's make this easy. How many are sticking with Mobil1 0w40? Just say "yes" or something like that. Easy. Let's not get into the insanity of oil's molecular structure, reports from who said what on an oil analysis. Just simple as pie.....yes or no. Are you sticking with Mobil1 0w40?

I changed from Mobil 1 0W40 to Amsoil Euro formula 0W40 (EFO)
when Mobil changed its formula. I have an R50, though.

Still using Mobil 1 0w40 Euro spec. No problems with 5,000 mile changes. Still runs like a top with 85,000 miles on the odo.

I'd get that fixed, why would you want to have your car spinning around like a top?

Castrol

Castrol's Oil Selector on their site says that Castrol EDGE 0W-40 A3/B4 is compatible with my '10 R56S Hardtop.

The local Walmart carries that in the 5 quart size for about the same price that the Mobil 1 used to go for.

Anyone else using this now?

+1 on the Castrol 0w-40. The previous owner used Mobil1, but I switched at first oil change. Engine sounds smoother, and my mysterious ongoing oil loss mitigated itself.

I noticed no difference between the Edge 0-40 and Mobil1 0-30 other than /maybe/ fuel mileage. I only run for 7500 miles on a change, however.

This topic has been covered extensively in other threads, when this change occurred in June... 2016

Castrol Edge 5w30 with MANN filter in every change (5k miles) in the past 5 years with no problems at all.

I really doesn't matter. I can continue to use 5W-30. I'll just buy it from the local car parts store. Most important is to change between 3000 to 5000 miles. Or in my case since I rarely rack up huge miles every six months has been my recent schedule.
