08' R56 Non-S Rear Brake change Aftermarket or OEM?

Hiii!

I am debating should I go with OEM or aftermarket as I need to change rear pads, rotors, and sensors. There's quite a huge price differences. I read and research but threads are mostly about the S. I want to reduce dust and mostly local driving from my understanding aftermarkets are better!

Is it better to get Zimmerman disc, AKEBONO EURO pads, and Bowa or Pex sensor. Links below.

Rear brakes are the same on the base and S car, we put all of our customers into the SP Performance pads paired with either a generic blank rotor or an SP Performance slotted rotor. The SP rotors are a better grade steel with a better finish, they tend to last at least twice as long as the generics and are about $80 more expensive for a full set of rotors.

Your biggest decision will be with the pads though, most generic blanks are going to hold up about the same unless you go with a quality rotor, such as; Brembo or Akebono. The decision on pads will be based on how the stop for one, but also cleanliness, noise, lifespan, and price. I would recommend the SP pads any day, followed by the Hawk HPS's, only reason I recommend the SP first is that they brake nearly the same as the Hawk pads but are also about 20% cheaper on average.

Feel free to give us a call if you wanted any help in the decision on what to get, we can set you up in whatever will suit you best per your application.

We've tried all the brakes that are made and now we only recommend the EBC Redstuff, Akebono or OEM. We keep all these in stock, but if your car came into our shop we would just do the EBC reds

Then our WMW rotors

the zimmermans are not bad rotors, but do cost more

If you want to stay cheap we have a great price on the OEM with sensor

what he said ...

you can probably get plain jane rotors at your local part store

but for minimal dust and good performance I use EBC reds .... used greens for quite a while ... reds are less dust.

Great these are all very helpful. THANK YOU!

Let me rephrase to make sure I make the right purchase. Generic rotors would do unless I pay for high price and quality one. (Which I am unable to do so at the moment) but pads are more important EBC Redstuff, Akebono or OEM.

My last questions; Out of these pads since I am more of an daily local driver but however when I am on the freeway I drive pretty hard. Would any of those 3 do? Or one is better?

I am thinking these Fremax Painted Rotors. They're on sale for a great price but I understand they're more for tracks...lol Would it matter?

a handful of thoughts ....

1. Have you changed front brakes yet? To need new pads/rotors on rears b4 fronts would be VERY unusual as the fronts provide 80% of your braking, or more .... that's why they are MUCH larger.

2. MINI brakes are VERY over engineered ... unless you race/track/autocross the car there is ZERO need to upgrade the brakes beyond a decent pad .... plain jane rotors are 100% fine ESPECIALLLY on the rear!

3. Those rotors look like OK plain janes .... but add in shipping and check your local part store .... they may have a PJ for the same price and NO shipping. A plain rotor is a plain rotor .....

Thank you for your input @Capt_Bj. It is helping me rethink my decision. Apparently, I did ask about rear and completely forgot about it! I have no recollection of typing it.

I did change my front pads and rotors a few years ago but didn't change my rear because there was still alot left. And the reason for it not wearing out faster, I don't drive more than 50 miles a week the past few years. lol

I did check AutoZone online for generic one and they were more expensive for some reason. Later on today, I am going to stop by in person and ask. However, I would get free shipping with RM European since I'm ordering AKEBONO EURO and sensor from them!

Again thank you!!!

Sorry if these question seem trivial or easy. My knowledge of cars is limited to basics!
