R56 Turbo question
Turbo question
I have a 2009 mcs that the turbo has went out on. Looking to replace it with a low mileage used turbo as the budget it tight. Here's the question, will a turbo from an n18 motor fit? I know that the intake hose was changed on the n18 but I haven't been able to find any other info
Thanks for any help in advance

Other than minor plumbing differences (intake hose), there should be no mechanical or electronic mounting problems. If you do the replacement yourself, be prepared for a knuckle-busting chore. It's actually easier to put it in service mode and pull the manifold / turbo as one unit. Good luck.

I was going to pick up the turbo line kit from ECS tuning, I will check out Detroit tuned as well. Thank you
Provided your housings are still good you could install a replacement cartridge as opposed to the entire turbo. Just an option for $285 Canadian.

If you dive into this, esp if you put it in service mode, consider changing the oil filter housing gaskets and the oil cooler gaskets if they haven't already been done. They're not expensive, and it's a little more work, but you'll have everything out of the way to change them.
These gaskets are a very common source of oil leaks....

We also have the turbo flange to manifold gaskets on hand as well, which is a great idea to replace instead of using the stock gasket again.
I would highly recommend our line over the OE line. You will be replacing it again over the cars lifespan, our Super Kit has everything you'd need to both install new oil feed/return, and oil filter housing gaskets which are prone to failure, as well as multiple other components that will be needed in the turbo swap.

Also, I've got to put in a plug here for White Roof Radio - really enjoy listening to Chad and the guys while I'm walking the dog.
