215/45/17 to big of a tire for a stock mini s?
I had 205/45/17 on my car and I just got winter tires today, they orderd 215s they said it was easier to find. I said ok sounds good. Well on the way home I took the normal route and when i went over a wavy spot in the road it sounded like I was rubbing on the back right wheel. I said "wtf" so i turned around and I didn't see anything i could of hit. While going over again it did the same thing. When I got home I looked that's when i noticed the fender was bent up on the inside of the wheelwell back by the bumper. I dont remember it being that way maybe it was and with the little wider tire it's just now being able to make contact. Or it was from the tire?. Idk I bent my it back by hand. But is anyone else running a 215 on a stock s? Thanks

I figured they would and it doesn't look like they will rub but for the edge of the fender tk be ben up a little confuses me. I dont remever seeing it before. Then again it was a small bend and maybe I just never noticed it before.
I've been running 215/45's for the last 8 months with no rubbing. I put some aftermarket wheels with a bigger offset and they did rub with that size tire, but went back to stock wheels and still no rubbing even with a 10mm spacer.

As many have stated, the 215/45/17 has become rather standard as a replacement to the 205s as it has a bit more sidewall for ride as well as doesn't deteriorate handling.
I'd say the snow tires are your biggest reason for hearing noises, as the treadblocks tend to be a bit larger and protruding.
The only time I rub on my car is either when I've got sizeable luggage, more than 2 people in the car, or if I'm on twisty roads having...Fun.

I have been running 235/40/17 on 7.5 wheels and lowered 2" for about 4 years with never a problem. The key issue is wheel offset and backspacing.

p.s. if someone can tell me how to use the computer to post pix I'll show you how to make your ride BADASS and the NV of all boy racers.

I just picked up some ASA JH3 16x7.5 ET38 and am looking for the widest tires I can get without rubbing for autocross. What's the offset on your wheels?
