Hi all,

Can you help me identify whether I do in fact have the death rattle? The timing chain was already covered by my 3rd party extended warranty back (work done by the dealership) in 4/2013 when it had 29k miles, I now have about 64k. It's pretty loud and I'm almost certain it should be changed again. My 3rd party warranty is still active until 72k. I wonder if there is a clause in my warranty that states that the same work cannot be completed again. Anyhow, let me know if anyone has any feedback, much appreciated, thanks!

I would not risk driving it because these things fail spectacularly

 

how often do you change oil and or add more oil? I have noticed that after about 2500 miles my oil is low so I just top it off don't know if that helps or not but for future keep an eye on the oil level

 

I change every 5k and religiously check oil level. Haven't calculated how often, but seems like I do refill quite a bit. My valve cover has enough of a leak now that I can smell burning oil when I lift the hood. By the way, I do not like the cravenspeed dipstick, can't see where the oil level is! Terrible design.

 

Definitely take it in to a dealer or qualified MINI mechanic and get their opinion.
