2007 R56 radio replacement

I have searched the forums and have not seen anyone with this issue.....

My '07 MCS has a radio issue. The display used to be almost unreadable when the interior was hot. (I live in Texas and the interior temp is regularly over 100 degrees!). When the car cooled down, the display would be readable again.

Last week, 3/4 of the display disappeared, leaving only the upper right 1/4. It also comes back on after the car is turned off and the key is removed. If i put the key back in and remove it again, it will go off.

I obviously need to replace the head unit assembly. Can anyone tell me if reprogramming is needed? If so, is there a link or thread on how to do this? I have NCS Expert, just need some guidance.

Thanks in advance!

I just saw a recent thread on this somewhere. Hopefully someone else will chime in. I think you can replace just the display, or do some google searching, there are place out there that will repair it..

These radio display problems can simply be an indication that your battery is failing. Check that first.

Yeah, BMW decided it was a good idea to use organic displays in Coopers, and the 328i. Reality is that it's an awful idea because they're really finicky with temperature changes, and die early.

The OP's car (2007 R56) doesn't have an OLED radio display. We're talking about something like this:

In any case, can you provide a reference to usage of OLED in Coopers and 328i? I'm a little surprised at this, and I'm curious as someone who has worked in the display technology area in the past. When I Googled, I could only find reference to OLED with the BMW head-up transparent display.

It's not an OLED, it's just an organic TFT display, at least, that's what I've been told. Sort of like the e-ink displays on the Amazon Kindle, but not really. Similar in practice.

There are inexpensive replacement display panels. Just have to take the unit out and apart.
