Does This Windshield Trim Look Normal?

I had my windshield replaced today, I finally got out of work and got to look at it....it wasn't like this before but I'm not sure that when the original windshield is replaced that it ever looks quite right again.

Does this windshield trim look normal on the top corners for a replacement?

Safelite glass did the job.....I didn't have time to check it out while the tech was there since it was during my working hours. I looked at it when I got out and thought dang that's an ugly job

Always always always ask the person
touching your MINI if they have worked on
then before. If not, find someone who has.

There were 2 choices...Safelite and Windshields N' More......I had heard of one and never even heard of the other. I tried to select the lesser of evils.

That's the plan.....I figured I'd check here just in case I was just being overly picky. Sometimes things are never as good after a repair but this one looked way over the top to me.

Another fine job by Safelite glass. Make them do it right no reason for sloppy work like that.

Safelite replaced my windshield a couple years ago. Lousy work too...

They were supposed to put OEM glass in and they didn't! The guy broke both side trim pieces and now the car is far noisier than it ever was!

Learned my lesson.... NEVER use Safelite!!!

That looks bad. I used a cheap no-name place and they did a great job. The Chinese glass was okay too. No distortion noticeable by me and didn't .
seem to fog more. They said Minis were really hard to work on and so obviously had done it before. That's the key.

Safelite is fine, but it's individual installers who can give them a bad name.

Those who post about how terrible Safelite is need to take it down a notch.

BUT - that was poorly done and they need to correct it. If the local guys can't get it right, find out who in their company can.

The emails didn't get any response but I called up customer service and they've got it scheduled to have somebody take a look at it next week. Hopefully this guy knows how to work on a Mini.

Thanks for the picture of the clip, that makes sense. I didn't know that the top rubber seals that run down the length of the car were held in by clips.

Welcome,

I had safelite, you have to call them and ask for a person who does the Euro cars(and BMW & MINIs. They come to our place allot here with all the euro cars in the parking lots . They have done all three of my MINIs. If you don't call them first , they will send out any person they have available and it might be there first time with a MINI. Make sure you get PPG glass or OEM.

I've used SAFELITE many times over th years on MINI and other cars. ONE time I had a problem with a 'whistle' when over 50 mph.

One call and they were back the next day and replaced everything again - new glass again ... problem solved. (on a Honda btw)

YES is is a national chain and you can have a bad location serving you ... I know a McDonalds that stinks too ..... and a Wendy's that's worse.

Note too that most dealers sub-contact glass replacement .... not unusual to see SAFELITE trucks at the service department!

The clips behind those "ears" are very delicate and brittle and it is difficult for them to pop the ears loose without breaking the clip behind. They told me that ahead of time. Mine sit much closer than yours though, even though the front clip is broken on both sides.

ECS, are those replacements for said clip? I thought it was part of the seal itself?

those are the front clips. They are part of the seal.

Slots on the trim side. Hole on the body side.

The "A" pillar trim is a common replacement part when replacing the windshield as they tend to break. Make sure they replace the foam seal behind it too or you may have some wind noise. Like some else mentioned it's not the company, Safelite is a good glass company, it's the installer who has never replaced a MINI windshield before and messed up and Safelite looks bad.

If a company sends an inexperienced installer to work on a car he/she has no experience with, who might the responsibility fall on if there are idiosyncrasies about that brand? I'm pretty sure Safelight as a company should be aware and should provide that info to installers.

So it's on management of Safelight! They claim all the techs receive extensive training.

I recently lowered my insurance deductible for this exact reason. From 500.00 to 100.00. I get lots of rock chips on my windshield, have had them repaired so far. But when the time comes for a new windshield, due to a crack that runs, I will be going to MINI for the factory glass, and hopefully all the other stuff that needs to be replaced in the process. I was paying a bit less for insurance before, but another 47 bucks per year will buy me a factory windshield, installed by the dealer. Then it's covered better, I would hope.

As a plus, I hit a rather large stray dog about a month after lowering my deductible to 100.00. Cost me 100.00 for 6800.00 in repairs. Not that hitting the poor dog was a plus, but lowering my deductible saved me 400 bucks. Crappy situation, made better.
