I Need Brakes

Looking for pad/rotor advice for my R56. Stoptech, EBC, NM.... Slotted/drilled/both..... Ceramic pads..... Too many choices.

I am not going all the way to a BBK. I know it's a good move, but the cost is more that I want to deal with right now..

Help!

Do you track or just street driving? If it's just a daily getter arounder you don't need anything other that OEM discs. Measure them before you go to the fuss of trading them out. Depending on driving habits, you may not need to swap them yet. All the fancy slot work on the others would just be for looks and less money for beer. The EBC Redstuff are very popular pads, I like mine. Again, unless you're diving from 120 to 58 going into the chicanes, you don't need high performance pads.

I have used the ECS Geomets with hawk pads Hp's good for daily and some track days. Most people do those or the EBC reds.

All street so far, but am interested in doing some track days to push it a little further.

I have used R1 Concepts rotors and pads. I have gotten their drilled/slotted for 3 cars now and I have never had any trouble. Braking improvement can be felt for sure. Good prices on there stuff too just buy their regular eLINE series, have heard bad things about the premier series.

I'll chime since I've been very happy with my setup. I run Stoptech slotted rotors on the front and OEM rotors on the back. I run Akebono Euro Ceramics all the way around for daily driving and I run Hawk HPS Plus all the way around for track days. The Akebonos don't have nearly the stopping power of the Hawk's, but, plenty enough for typical street driving IMO and my wheels stay super clean. The Hawk's on the other hand, have insane stopping power. It's really pretty incredible. But they are dirty dirty. If you don't care about keeping your wheels super clean and you don't mind chewing through rotors a little quicker, I personally would run those without question. I push them really hard at high speeds on track days and I've experienced zero fade.

I have EBC red brake pads front and back, I noticed right away that they stop better than factory pads. The instructions said that they may not stop as well until they are bedded in, but I found that was not the case.

I also replaced the rotors with Autozone Duralast rotors, they were less than $50 per corner.

Another vote for EBC reds here. Just put my second set on (the old rotors on my car wore faster than the pads), went with Zimmerman rotors this time. I liked that they were plated. My car is driven in the winter, and the old rotors got pretty rusty and crusty after a few seasons.

Have fun,
Mike
