Straight pipe R56

I'm looking for sound only on a budget but I don't want my ears bleeding from daily driving or a massive headache from highway drone after a trip.....What would be the best approach?? cat back, delete the resonator and muffler??? cat back, delete resonator with a magnaflow muffler...or delete cat and have either a resonator or muffler?? What size piping or does that matter?? and do I have to worry about CEL's???

I think you best option is a Borla cat-back. Sounds stock at idle but have a nice deep, non-obnoxious tone at WOT and no drone on the highway. I've had this set-up for 15k miles and would purchase it again in a heartbeat.

There is the aFe catback system HERE that is not too pricey, but if price wasn't an issue I'd go with REMUS HERE. Extremely great quality, warranty, and sounds really good too. Otherwise, if you decide to go custom, there are a few members on here that have done so.

I have seen the AFE thought bout it.... I like the sound of the Invidia exhaust the best just not wanting to drop $900 at the moment.... Was just looking at the straight pipe cause its gonna be a freebie...Down the road I'll put an exhaust on it, just wanna get the car paid off first

I have a jcw and I currently have a catless downpipe and am looking to go straight pipe as well. I wanted to know does anybody know if the mini can shoot flames as a straight pipe?

When I had my 07 R56 I had both resanotors cut out and for the $50 I loved the sound.

Resonator delete on my 2011 MCS sounds great! Not quite as loud as I want, but still good, deep, and grumbly, with no drone. Still want a Borla, but not in the cards right now. The raspy noise of a straight-pipe is not a desired sound for me. I like low and grumbly, with pops and burbles. Flames would be cool, but in Cali? Nope. I will leave the cat deletes to others in non-smog States. Jealous? YES! But, it is what it is.

I'm a fan of JCW exhaust, but catless. It burbles, can be loud when flooring it, but can still talk on Bluetooth. More burbling and flames is with ECU tuning. Here is one of my customers with a stock JCW exhaust and the ECU programmed to dump a little extra fuel to create flames, when the Sports button is on

Get a downpipe Catless and install a catylist emulator from Big Daddy's garage.

Mario, is it possible to have flames with cats? I would be interested in that, for sure! I can always run in non-sport for the smog test.....

It possible for maybe a day, but it pretty much melt the cats and clog them.
You could build an eclectical kit, that installs post cats and ignites the small amount of unburnt in the exhaust.

Oh man that is beautiful. The stock ECU w/ straight pipe doesn't produce flames in Sport mode? I would think the awesome popping you get with a stock exhaust (also extra fuel dump) would turn into flames through a straight pipe.

Even with straight pipes, you will need the ECU programmed to dump more fuel as you let off the throttle. Flames are cool, but can be very Shot Gun loud
