Haunted Mini Cooper help please :( JBE?
Hello everybody! I have a Mini cooper that was throwing a Red Steering Lock warning.
However, the car interior was soaked in a rainstorm and the JBE (the little box underneath the passenger side dashboard) was soaked and sadly broken.
I attempted to read the codes using INPA but I got no response from the computer. When I put the key in the ignition and press start, nothing works except the stereo and the windows. I can not put the car into neutral, I can not do anything except listen to the radio and roll down the windows. The car is flashing the red steering lock, however I do not think that this is the problem. It will also flash random other codes like the Mini on the Lift error, and the Airbag warning sometimes. The windshield wipers will also continue to run regardless of the key being in the ignition or not. I think this might have something to do with the old JBE now missing many pins off of the plug, as they were so corroded that they broke.
My question to anyone is... If I replace the JBE (which I have a good replacement), does it need to be coded? Also, I have heard people mentioning the CAS... does this need to be replaced as well or would simply replacing the junction box be sufficient enough to fix this?
EDIT- Also... For anyone who has had the dreaded red steering lock error... Could you at least turn on the car and have the accessories work?
The car is an 07 Cooper with 69,000. Yes I tried a new battery. 3 different batteries as well.
