I just picked up an 07 cooper S. Car looks sick, however, this is my first model S. Engine sounds a little different than my previous non-S and I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
There seems to be a weird ticking coming from the center right side of the engine. I took a video - does this sound normal or something to be worried about?
Most of the engine noise I hear gets quieter after the engine has warmed up, but this ticking seems to be there still. Not sure if this is related but on my way to work today (first time driving car after registering it, etc.) and it just turned off while I was at a stop light. Turned right back on, so not sure if that is because the engine might still have been cold?
No lights on or anything.
Appreciate any advice you can give me - thanks in advance! also attaching a pic of the car because it's so f-in cool looking.
Yes. Possible vacuum pump noise. My pump was leaking oil and had to replace it along with the gasket at about 75,000 miles. And make sure you check your oil levels. Our Mini's love to eat oil. If you hear knocking noise from the left side, it will be your timing chain. But again, make sure you check your oil levels. Nice Mini BTW.
Don't worry, all people I know, and after a long conversation about Mini programing, asks for that noise very worried.
That noise is normal, you have electronic fuel injectors!
The sound comes exactly from you say: behind the engine, where the fuel line is.
tak tak tak tak tak tak tak
and NO, that's not the famous Cooper S Death Rattle.
The hp injector make allot of noise. You can tell buy putting you ear near the cylinders , vs. near the passenger side timing chain and hear the location of the loud ticking noise.
