There's a thread for this HERE. Some have hit some good mileage already.

Thank you. Search option is hit or miss and couldn't find this thread on NAM using Google.
I found a lot of other high mileage threads just not the one I wanted.

I was trying to narrow down the N14. It seems like N12 owners chime in a lot and then an occasional R53 comes in. It's gets muddled.

I'm looking for several pages of N14 only experiences.

But thank you very much for posting the link.

Still do not see any N14s over 200,000k miles. Too soon. I did see a 150,000 mile guy. There is hope. Ha

I was up to 120K on an 2007 R56 N14 before I sold it. It was well taken care of by me.

Burnt valve?
Timing chain?

So I gather to do the following to lower our chances of the engine crapping out:

1. Keep the oil full at all times.
2. Proactively change the vacuum pump, tensioner and timing chain at some point.
3. Walnut blast the intake valves some what
regularly.
4. What else?

I wonder if getting a tune that programs the
engine at a lower operating temp would help reduce issues. The N14 runs really hot and the proximity of the turbo just bakes everything. No wonder gaskets wear out and the mini is known to leak.

I made it to 154k before giving up on that motor and getting a new one. All things considered it was fine mechanically, but the cost to fix the issues that it had and would inevitably have again were almost as much as just starting back from mile zero. Keep in mind, too, that was 154k really, really hard miles. I drive my car hard to say the least.

Thanks for the reply. I bet we will start to see a trend similar to what you just stated. Maybe the thread title should be changed to "Who thought they wanted to attempt 200k then had huge issues and gave up and junked or sold the car cause it wasn't worth it". There are over 1 million R56's worldwide so hopefully prices will slowly go down on parts and more people will dive into the N14 repairs and it will just become easier overall. I plan on tackling any engine issue as they come up - even a full rebuild but for the average person it isn't happening. Just trying to get a feel how problematic the engine internals for the N14 really are.

Yeah, I had every intention of sticking with that block for as long as possible. If I had a second car, and a garage, it may have played out differently; I likely would have rebuilt it myself to stick with that block. But it is my only car, my daily driver, and I needed it back on the road so I just went with the new motor. No question I'll keep the car as long as is physically possible though. I'm thrilled to have it back and running with a second chance you know.

The issues I had were the typical ones. Timing chain assembly replaced several times. Turbo replaced once. Cylinder head rebuilt once. Countless walnut blasting bs, valve covers, etc.

Sorry to hear that , I know some that are tracked all the time , very hard, have more issues. Like with the turbos and head. Not too much carbon because they are driving them sooo hard.

It's all good, all behind me now. And yeah, I mean my stock turbo lasted up until about 90k miles. And even then, it was just the lines and the wastegate issue, the internals were more or less fine. Someone needs to get around to figuring out a permanent fix for that...But as for the carbon buildup, it definitely does help to run it hard every once in a while and 'clean out the cobwebs'

I've got 2 customers with N14 Cooper S with over 180k and one customer with 170k. I can tell you that one thing common to all 3 is they all change their oil every 5k miles and never miss it.

Wouldn't believe unless I saw with my
own eyes. No clue how many engines to get
here though. Ha.

My N14 made it to 75k miles before it was sucking oil like I've never seen. Can't speak for the type of oil and frequency of changes from the previous owner.

Cylinders were tapered/oval, head was toast, timing chain rattly, turbo was done.

Got the car for cheap and it gave me an excuse to mod so there's that....

You can tell the French got into this one. Not a vehicle you can just drive and change the oil with whatever says synthetic on the front every 10-15k that's for sure.

2009 MCCS at 151,000 miles. Bought new, change oil at 5k, one timing chain, one HPFP, one thermostat, new turbo oil lines, oil cooler seals, one valve cover, one carbon blasting (currently doing it a second time), etc. My turbo will need to be rebuilt or replaced soon - I think the wastegate is going. Mostly highway commuting miles, no track or autocross yet. Pretty consistent on the maintenance. I mostly drive conservatively....mods include coilovers, strut bar, Alta FMIC, front splitter, front brake cooling ducts, rear sway bar, GFB DV+, Accessport, etc. Some exhaust changes, a Cravenspeed short shifter, and a WMW/TSW under stress bar are in the works.

110K on a 2009 R57. Just replaced the turbo myself due to broken wastegate actuator. Regular oil changes. Coolant flush, new water pump, needs a new accessory belt and tensioner. Never needed a carbon blasting, needed a new valve cover. Replaced the chain tensioner just for the heck of it. If you just keep up on maintenance it should be fairly reliable. I'd say it's good to drive it a bit harder. We also have an N18 car and both seem to run better after driving them hard. They need to stretch their legs sometimes...
