Battery help

Can anyone tell me if this is an AGM battery? I do not appear to have the IBS attached to my negative terminal and may need to replace the battery soon and would like to put in a similar one. I also understand that I will not need to have the car reprogrammed upon new battery installation.

If that is the original battery, which looks to be it, it should be the AGM type. You can call your local dealer and they can provide you with the correct battery or I'm sure any reputable local MINI Indy shops can as well. We have a battery DIY here that you can read up on information about the install and the IBS system. If you do not have it, you will not need to register the battery. If you do, you should register it so that it does not shorten your battery life. That is the only registration that you would need to do when you install the battery, if you have that system of course. If you have questions, let me know.

I don't think it's AGM

I literally just got done changing the battery on my '12 Justa. The reason I say that I don't think that's AGM is that it looks just like my original and it has the 'inpection glass' and I'm not sure if AGM's have that.

I can say that these cars get really 'odd' when a battery is on the way out. Mine was throwing all kinds of warnings and when over 3500 RPM's things got really wieird. My dash went blank and came back a few times on my ride home, after a jump start.

Changed it out and re-set the time/date and all seems OK now but it was like no other car I've had. I don't know what went wrong with the OEM as it's really not that old and oddly it was showing "green" in the inspection glass. I figured it coundn't hurt to change it out and it seems to have done the trick.

When putting the battery cover back on the thing that directs air around the batter on the battery cover had to come off as the new battery (Group 48/H6) is a good bit wider than the original.

Good luck with the change out.

I just checked my original battery and it does have different part numbers from yours and it says "BMW" not "MINI". However it does mention gasses, sulfuric acid and has the Pb labeling. I'm pretty sure that Pb is Lead and that the metion of gasses and acid is related to a non AGM battery.

I agree that mine went 'early' but I do have almost 70K miles so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Also, since it's sealed I can't easily check for a bad cell, but perhaps that's what happened. I can say with the new one in things look good and on the hidden menus I am getting 14.2V at the battery when the car is running so that looks to be just about spot on.

A couple of weeks ago, I replaced the battery in my 2012 MCS. It was almost 4 years old and they usually only last a couple of years in the desert heat. Sometimes a jump just won't do it, I hate being stranded..

Look at this one:

AutoCraft Platinum AGM Battery, Group Size H6, 760 CCA

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/a...agm/10210829-P

I recently replaced my original 2011 with this, no issues, no registration required in my car, and it fit just fine.

Expensive, but Advance always has online discounts.
