15 Car to Avoid

4. Fiat 500L

While Fiat’s comely 500 coupe and convertible exist as a worthy alternatives to the MINI Cooper among those seeking small and fun urban hipster transportation, the longer four-door L just doesn’t keep pace with comparably priced family minded compact crossovers. The 500L receives low marks in initial quality and performance from J.D. Power and a below-average resale value rating from ALG; new for 2014, its long-term reliability is yet to be determined.

1. BMW 7 Series

BMW’s flagship sedan seems to have lost its edge in recent years. It’s wrapped in languid styling and just doesn’t feel as sporty as it did in earlier renditions; an odd product lineup includes an expensive and not especially efficient gas-electric hybrid model. Consumer Reports takes the 7 Series to task for being “a ponderous, technology-laden vehicle with ungainly handling,” and is included in the publication’s lists of lowest-scoring cars, worst overall values and most expensive operating costs in its class. Not to pile on, but it also gets a rock-bottom resale value rating from ALG and a below average performance score from J.D. Power.

I had a 500 Sport for a little while - and I will attest that that ARE a blast to drive and for the time I had one (41,500 miles), low maintenance. They are essentially .. a modern VW bug. My son has a newer one and no problems thus far. That said, looking at the bigger 4 door L, I wasn't impressed or pleased with it in any way. I have taken a visual liking to the 500X crossover but that remains to be seen. It's essentially a Jeep Renegade (not a renegade fan).

I'm on the hunt for the perfect Mini.

That was interesting, then I got to #7 and just shook my head.
Then I got to #6 and read this gem
the Patriot assumes more-traditional Jeep exterior styling
More traditional? Than what? More traditional than the wrangler which is based off the 1941 ******?
Then I realized they were pretty stupid, and although I agree with most of what they say, I cant take them seriously.
At least the Mini didnt make the list.
Im going to go get another drink.

More traditional .. than a rock.

Kidding aside, I think they mean the Patriot has more traditional 'Jeep' styling than the Compass does.

Interesting that the Fiat / Chrysler / Jeep / Dodge conglomerate got positions 3-7

There are several of the entries on the list that reference the cars that come after them, as if these were intended to be displayed in the opposite order (look back at the Lincolns). When they say the Patriot has more traditional Jeep styling they're comparing it to the Compass, not the Wrangler.
