Just bought a used 2009 Mini jcw with 61K. I will have it by the weekend. Im trying to read as much as I can on regular maintenance. I will be using this as a daily driver. This is the first mini owned so the information im finding in the forum is really appreciated. The car ran really good compared to another Mini i test drove that was 1year newer with 20k miles less both jcw. I watched a couple of videos and read as much as i could on the major flags to look out when buying a used mini/ used car and overall i was pleased with the car. Once its home are there any things I should really look at? Thanks for the help.

Nice and congrats, we need pics

Just go through the car , check everything out. Oil change, check the cabin filter, and just keep up on the maintenance, also you can get records from your local dealership what factory maintenance, has been done or warranty repairs or things that might be outstanding for repair.

Hi Andres, what a coincidence!! Almost like we bought the same car, lol. I recently purchased my 09 JCW with 70K (Canadian KMs) on it. My first Mini as well, so I'm very thankful for the vast amount of info. that can be found in the forums. Great read! Definitely, regular oil changes (and top-ups) with a 'premium' synthetic for these turbocharged 4 bangers. Your Mini will 'love you' for it.

Welcome to NAM, Andres! We are updating our R56 tech articles here with lots of new information so make sure to check them out as needed for fixes/repairs and/or upgrades! Just make sure to keep up on the basic maintenance needs, check out suspension components for wear and, of course, enjoy driving it! If you have any questions that may pop up feel free to ask.

Congrats, these can be very fun cars to drive. You're probably going to want to have the intake valves looked at, if they have never been cleaned (walnut blasted) it might more than likely need it! It's also a good idea to find out whether your timing chain components have ever been replaced before!

Welcome to the MINIacs!

Best advice... Read the owners manual, there is a lot of information there, and it will let you know all about the owner preferences that can be set.

Motor on!

Another new owner on here as well. 2009 JCW w/ 53k. Been reading up on old posts here on everything... there is a lot of information, this is a great forum. Got some serious wind noise coming from the sunroof. Does anyone know the cheapest source for all 3 gaskets? Thanks in advance.

ESC Tuning, plan on taking the sunroof glass panels to the dealer to be realigned because it's difficult to get them to actually close once removed!

I replaced all the rubber seals and couldn't get the damn thing too close after the glass panels were removed, $150.

At what speeds are you guys getting the wind noise? I get some wind noise around 90+ but im guessing that would be common.

Very nice, looks like they did not get the JCW Aero I body kit with the FJCW. Looks very clean, like the Chili Red w/ JCW , congrats.

Yeah, the other mini I was looking at had the aero kit, which looked very good. Going thru the glove box I was able to find the original window stick as well as the service receipts done to the car. So that was good. Also the carfax show all the Oil/ Maintenance logs done. After inspecting it, breaks and tires are fairly new, also the break fluid and coolant were done recently as wells. On the Maintenance log the transmission flush was done at 50k. Overall who ever owned it had the maintenance on schedule, im glad about that. However the car did sit outside and most of the seals and the cowl wiper vent cover has some sun damage.

Great, to have the service records is a major plus.

On the cowl fade its typical in the south, or the built in window gasket comes apart, we have a replacement kit here:
