Help! Just started Walnut Blasting--cylinders don't seem to be in sync...

I'm looking with a scope at the crud on the intake walls and I can see the valve stems, but unlike the instructions, cylinder 1 is open and all three others appear closed.

Is this an issue? The instructions claim that the two outer cylinders should be in sync with each other and the two inner cylinders should be in sync.

Well, I just rotated the engine until each cylinder closed and then blasted away.

What a miserable job though! It took me all day and that crud just didn't want to come off. I was able to get the stems clean and some of the dome shaped parts, but I wasn't happy with the job I was able to do and the nine hours I devoted to it. Next time I'm paying someone else to do it.

How did you do this yourself? I thought it took special equipment.

I bought the equipment from ECS tuning and Harbor Freight as is outlined in the DIYs here. I even had a scope that allowed a good view of the internals (this is a MUST. You can't see worth anything without a scope).

I figured the couple hundred I paid for everything would more than pay for itself with the first blasting. It would have paid for itself if only it did a good job at the blasting. I don't know what the pros use and if they would have done a better job than I, or if they would have just buttoned everything back up like I did out of frustration.
