Newbie with a project

Ok everyone I am a newbie to the group. However I have been on many forums due to the vast knowledge people have within these groups. I bought a project to rebuild and yes I mean rebuild. Vehicle has front end damage consisting of the following

Hood, R&L Fendors, Wheels wells, Upper and Lower bumpers, bumper carrier, radiator, condensor, and lower passenger side control arm, and battery. Drivers side rear brake sensor bit the dust. The wiring harness got mangled up also on the passenger side for the lights. I have a question on the comb connector attached to the wiring harness. There are a bunch of brown wires attached to the comb and has some compound protecting the wires. If you are not familar with it it is the black comb connector attach to the passenger side frame.

I have the front of the car torn off and a used front clip being shipped to me which I am going to rob the parts off and put on this car.

Welcome, should be a pretty easy project as I did the similar rebuild on my clubman.

Typical Euro wiring- Brown wires equal GROUNDS.
Typical BMW wiring- loose grounds will drive you nuts.

Whenever something electrical stops working, verify the grounds. It's not always the loss of +12volts, but the loss of the return to ground that causes the issue.

Especially on a car with front end damage, try to trace out the circuits before you put everything back together.

Thanks for the advice. Taking all the wiring and visually inspecting and fixing. Comb connected took the brunt of the hit on passenger side. I know how delicate these electronics can be.

Update on project.

Well I pretty much have all the wiring checked and fixed. The salvagecompany used a loader to put the car on a flatbed truck. Doing this they bentthe rear lower control arm in back. Also ripped the abs on driver’s side rear.I got the control arm replaced on right side front. Driver’s seat belt has Tobe replaced on long with the air bag. Starting this week I am going to changeparts from the replacement parts. I am going to get the hood, fenders on andthen get the front painted. Once painted I will finish putting on the rest ofthe items

Seatbelt and Battery

Well I did not know seatbelts are good for one crash and then need to bereplaced. I got the driver's side seatbelt replaced. Had to take the panels offthe driver's side rear. This simple project took 2 hours. Finally goteverything together and buttoned up. I have not put on the airbag yet. I haveto replace the crash sensor up front and will put the airbag on after that.Ihave a Christmas tree of alarms due to all the lights not be connected. I havethe trifecta abs, dsc, tps alarms. However I will deal with those once I get moretime. I have NCSExpert loaded on my laptop and will be doing a test run in thenext couple days to interrogate the Ecu and system to get the fault codes.
