R56 Clutch
Clutch
I have a 2009 R56 S. So it seems the time has come the my throwout bearing no longer wants to be nice to me. The clutch system works fine, I can just here the every so often squeal at idle. My wife is allowing me to get a clutch kit because I explained to her if im taking it apart im not going to just replace a bearing. If i was intelligent i would have replaced the clutch when i put in the new motor. I am doing all the work myself so labor costs are not there. I really just have a few questions.
1) What is the difference between S and non S clutch kits. Why would a non-s clutch kit not work?
2) What is the best upgrade kit for someone looking to be cheap.
3) Can anyone find the metal throwout bearing sold by itself anywhere? I saw an OS geiken one for like 200 and figured thats pretty high.
I have searched on here but the searches arent bringing up much more than garbage. If you can direct me to something I will take that information as well. Thank you all for your time!

I replaced my whole clutch kit and flywheel for the same reason, when I would drive it screeched most of the time. The S clutch kit is for a turbocharged engine, being different engines I wouldn't think clutch kits were compatible. I don't know of an upgraded clutch kit that will work with the OEM flywheel, perhaps someone else could chime in here. The metal throw-out bearing for OS Geiken is designed to only work with that kit. If it were possible everyone here who had their clutch replaced would have jump on the metal throw-out bearing.
Yes for anyone that stumbles onto this, the cooper and cooper s flywheels have a different diameter. of course that makes the clutch and pressure plate different. Now my question has been answered. I pose a different one though. What is keeping us from putting the upgraded Non-S flywheel and clutch on the S. Wouldn't it save rotational mass?

Don't try to change it to the non S with it being smaller it will have slightly less surface area. Plus you will end up spending more money and time trying to make it work.
When we do a clutch on an R56 we always replace the clutch fork and pivot pin with it. Don't want $50 worth of parts to cause you to do it all over again.

The OS Giken is a good clutch, but it's more of a racing clutch so for daily use it will be very abrupt. And no you can't use their throw out bearing with any other clutch.
