Ask Anything Thread

I've seen a thread like this do well elsewhere, so I figured I'd make one and see what happens. Besides I have a lot of questions and I really don't want to make a thread for every one of them.

So, the jist is post any small question that wouldn't typically require a whole thread devoted to it that you would like answered. Hopefully promptly.

So here goes my load of questions for the time being.

1. Does anyone have experience with the FeBi (Bilstein) tie rod ends? They are substantially more affordable than other non-OEM options and, of course, lower than OEM. The name Bilstein carries some weight, but I'm afraid of this being a situation of you get what you pay for. Granted, nearly anything would be better than my current drivers side tie rod...

2. Does anyone know of any aftermarket seats that fold basically flat? I've done a rear seat delete, I've created an insert that sits flush with that horizontal divider. I'll be making kind of a storage compartment in the trunk area above the flat tire kit that will also sit flush. The idea is that if I can find seats that go down low enough I can fashion another board that sits below the rear seat delete, I could lower the front seats, take that piece and have basically the entire inside of the car from dash to hatch horizontal (and load bearing).

3. 1st gear. My 1st gear is really stiff sometimes, and then sometimes it loosens up and feels buttery smooth just like the other 5 gears. I have a friend who drives a manual celica and I was shocked at how stiff the shifter was in all gears. now my first gear feels like that, and I can't imagine why. Something out of alignment? needs more ...

4. has anyone, themselves, gone to an auto parts store and clamped themselves up a "custom" exhaust? I'm talking from the DP back, increase the diameter to 2 3/4, putting in a high flow CAT, delete the resonator, use flex exhaust pipe to a muffler bought at the auto parts store, ect. I've been thinking about doing this. It would only cost just over 100 dollars to do it... but I have no experience with the flex pipe. I'm not sure how long the exhaust clamps will last. The end goal is the most bang for your buck exhaust that may yield a little bit of performance and will definitely give me a different exhaust note.

That's it for now, I'll come back with others later I'm sure.

1 - Yup, fine stuff. Never had an issue. Used them for years on VW/Audi cars.

3 - How old is your trans fluid? Is this a cold/hot thing? If so, change the fluid with something that meets or exceeds the OE specs

4 - Yup, tried this years ago... fits like crap, rattles apart, leaks. What you CAN do is go to a muffler shop and have them make a custom setup. This is the cheapest and best route for a budget system. This way at least hardware is bent with proper tools, hangers match to factory points, and hardware is welded.

Exhaust systems are frequently available used on the marketplace. Not sure how you feel about that.

Ex - send me a PM. If I can help, I will.

Have fun,
Mike
