R56S Transmission ?

So I have a 6 speed R56S, I've noticed lately when shifting from 2nd-3rd and 4th to 5th that going through the pattern almost feels like shifting through peanut butter or something. I don't think it's the clutch.. but I've never experienced anything like this.. it does the same when down shifting... and it doesn't seem to be every time I drive... it is quite frequent though.

Any help or thought's would be greatly appreciated!

Clean and lube the linkages.

It might be the clutch if your shifting feels like you describe, have you had you peanut butter fluid changed?

Haha... I haven't checked the peanut butter cap yet to see if the fluid looked extra nutty.... lol... man I really hope it's not the clutch... I'm about to hit 90k though on my 07... so I guess i wouldn't be amazed.

I just looked up some shifter linkage issues... I can't find anything on how to clean/lube them.. but most people who describe the same issue I have looks like there was a bent bracket or bad shift cable... interesting.

Does it do the same thing when the car is off and parked? There are two cables on the transmission. The one is linked to "up/down" on the shifter and the other to the "left/right". They're replaceable but kind of a pain and about $100 each. You can lube them I would guess. I'm not sure how you would. The transmission side has a boot on it that you might be able to get off and get some silicone spray in there but I'm not sure how long it would last or if it would even help. If it's really bothering you it's $100 and a few hours of your time to replace a shift cable.

A clutch problem would affect all the gears. Usually the lower gears more than the higher ones, though.

Most likely a linkage problem.

90k would be considered pretty darn good for a clutch life! Are you the original owner? On my 07 MCS I had 3 owners, most were repo. I went ahead and replaced my flywheel and clutch components simply because my throw out bearing was screeching like a whistle. Whoever drove my Mini abused the clutch. I'm good for 100k.

I agree with others that it might be linkages, because when a clutch goes it goes bad quickly at least from my experience.
