Engine bay vent delete?

Engine bay vent delete?-image.jpgSo I was looking around in my engine bay and I noticed a plastic vent below my wiper fluid. I didn't know what it was, so I followed it to the back of the engine underneath my air intake. The vent doesn't connect to anything, I think it just provides more air to the bay. I'm looking to clean up my engine bay and I was wondering if anyone else has deleted this vent and how to delete it if anyone has. Would this also cause any problems temperature wise if I removed it?

Thanks,

Ryan

The vent connects to the stock air filter assembly. If you have an aftermarket then it may not be used. However, it will still let cooler air reach the aftermarket filter better, therefore providing a theoretical performance advantage.

I have an aftermarket air intake, so I would be able to remove the vent? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It's just a slip and clip kind of fitting. Screw driver with cloth around the tip (to keep from scratching the plastic) should do the trick. Slides right out. I can almost do it with just my hand on mine. Or if you have a plastic trim tool, that would work even better. Either way, pretty easy peasy.

I just found that the vent is connected to a metal plate. Might need an Allen key but I'm not sure.

Ok. There may be a difference then. I have a '07 R56S and that has the N14 engine. Yours should be the N18 engine. Perhaps they changed how they connect to the front area there. In mine, there is no bolts or screws. Yes it connects to the metal plate, but its just a snap fitting.

There is a collar piece near the front. See the picture:

In your picture you show #8. That connects to #9. And #9 connects to the front.

So I should be able to just pull #8 out from #9, and then pull off the metal plate from #8?

Heck, if its too much of a hassel, I'd just leave #9. You wouldn't even see it under there.
