ECU Tune with JB+. Is this a good idea? Why?

Couldn't find an answer from search...

Any ideas if running a JB+ with a tuned ECU may or may not be a bad idea?

Lots of people say the JB+ only affects the drive by wire lag and really has nothing to do with power? Conversely, many swear up and down JB+ makes real horsepower- could one "double dip" and stack a JB+ on a tuned ecu for a little more?

Thoughts? Thanks!

The JB+ makes real power, it's been throughly documented.

The Sprint Booster alters the drive by wire lag.

They are two separate products, I think that you are confused.

I think that it is pointless to run both the JB+ and the tune. The JB+ is meant for people that don't want to alter the DME. If you are already altering the DME then just ask for a more aggressive tune from your tuner.

Maybe Terry will comment.

Do not have the JB+ installed if you had your car tuned.

Some tunes take care of what the sprint booster does for you.

JB+ and sprint booster? No problem.

Might be a good idea to contact your tuner to figure out what they tuned/changed on your car. If no throttle map adjustments, the sprint booster is prolly OK.

Touching on a topic Dustypants mentioned, if You have a good tuner, than the sprintbooster will not be needed, as they should be able to adjust the throttle maping to what you like, i.e. do the same or more than a sprint booster.

As I said in your other thread, I'd contact Manic since you have the N18 engine and an upgraded turbo. They should also be able to adjust your throttle mapping to you liking as well. You should really look them up, I'm sure they'll do better than the JB+, sprintbooster combo you have now. Probably better than that VR tune as well since you have that Alta/Perrin Billet R56 Turbo.

I am seriously considering the Manic tune. Just a shame that the VR Tune was just done. It does feel pretty good with lots of power. Perhaps I will get a second ECU and have the Manic tune on that... It would be interesting to dyno both with the same setup (minus JB+).

It would be interesting for comparisons sake, but with that turbo it wouldn't really help too many people decide on the tune aspect, as most people will not change out the turbo. But If you decide you want to do that, more power to ya! I'd get in contact with Manic and see what your options are. Manic is more in depth than most others.

didn't we broach this same subject three threads above?
and several if not all of the guys said to NOT run both together.
not sure if you didn't like their replies or just needed more information and it wasn't forth coming.

Here is that thread if you forgot:

Sorry... the other post was originally about a slipping tranny and I decided to ask a more specific question in this thread. Sorry everyone.
