R56 Top speed?
Interesting I saw 136 on my digital readout once....I was in 6th, and its hard to tell if i had any left. Also believe the car felt just as stable as going 60. If you have some sort of experience in other cars to compare it too, it really is well planted.
Yeah you would probably need more road or more mods to get further than 143. But you won't get much further really. Besides its really about how fast in a turn, rather than a line right?
That's another thing... I'm able to make cloverleaf exchanges doing 60 before my better judgement kicks in. The way this car handles corners and curves is insane. A buddy of mine that drives a 2012 Civic SI can never keep up around the curve. XD
Front Belly Pan GP2 Version: R56 - R59 models

Rear GP2 diffuser : R56 S/ JCW - R59 S/ JCW models w/ JCW rear bumper ( not for R55 Clubman) .

And the center underbody Aero belly pans : they just SS the R56 ones to the R58 ones. hardware is listed in the thread.

With all this you will have the full flat undercarriage. Which based on MINIs testing should reduce drag. The Factory GP2 aero testing video is linked on the belly pan thread:

running on the salt is slower than pavement, the friction of salt is alot more.
I have hit 140 in my MINI, 160 in my 95 TA and over 140 on my bikes . My TA felt very stable at high speeds, the MINI aint bad , my bikes are scary as hell at 140 and the wind is trying to rip you off the bike. In a bike you can really feel the diff in effort as speed increases, 120 is easy 130 is were it really try to start pulling you off and 140 your tucked and hanging on hard.

Drag increases by the square of the speed -- ie. double the speed, quadruple the drag. The power required to overcome drag increases by the cube of the speed -- ie. twice the speed requires EIGHT TIMES THE POWER!
So to make that 225hp car go 165mph would require those simple bolt-on mods to make that motor put out 368hp.
In that increase from 120 to 140, you were feeling a 36% increase in the force trying to pull you off the bike. Imagine how bad it would be if you weren't in a tuck -- 4 times the force you feel sitting on the bike at 70mph.
On a closed course, I hit 142 indicated with my 08 R56S with intake and muffler delete. I had my foot flat on the floor at that point, but there was no more meat under the hood ha ha. I'd like to try it again with more mods and a tune. The car felt just fine at that speed.
My 2004 Tiburon GT pulls hard right into fuel cut in 6th gear. When I was still running the factory tune with piggybacks, that happened right at 161 mph (6750 rpm). With the extra 750 rpm from the new tune, in addition to the larger rolling diameter of the taller tires I went to this spring, it's got to be good for upwards of 170.

Blue Koopa Shell
So I have been so graciously given the opportunity to be stationed in Ramstein, Germany. Which means I drive on the Autobahn everyday to work.
I have a 2011 R56 JCW untuned. I have gotten it up to 155.5 Mph (it's US Spec) it then Governs out/Overrevs. 120 mph is easily stable and I do that everyday to work. 155... you're playing with fire.
And yes I did the Ring several times... 9:55
The tall grass I parked my car in after I had finished turned black and nearly caught fire due to the heat from my brakes.

Spent a couple of years at Spangdahlem. I'd love to get the MINI (and the Mean Streak) out there.
To add to this, I have done 140+ in a R56 and R55 and I can notice quite a difference in the stability of the two at 130 and above.
Neither felt dangerous but there was still a difference.

Bonneville
The USFRA - Utah Salt Flat Racing Association - holds a yearly event at Bonneville called The World of Speed. It is going on right now - Sept. 6-9 They have two classes for registered and insured street cars called the 130 MPH club and the 150 MPH club. http://www.saltflats.com/
To make the 130 MPH club you have to do two runs over 130 in 1 mile from a standing start but less than 140. The tech is pretty basic and you just need a helmet. You buy 5 runs for $160 plus USFRA membership - $50 per year. If you don't make it in 5 runs you can buy 5 more.
To make the 150 MPH club you have to do two runs over 150 in 2 miles from a standing start but less than 160. The tech is tougher as you need a 4 point roll bar and harnesses - fire suit - hand restraints - etc. This costs $285 for 5 runs plus USFRA membership.
We had a member of our SCMM (Southern California MINI Maniacs) club try this back in 2006 and 2007 after watching the movie The Worlds Fastest Indian. He had a 2005 MINI Cooper S JCW 210 HP- no other mods. He could not make the 130 club, ran a best of 126 - needed more HP. In 2008 several of us brought our modified MINI's to Bonneville and 3 cars - all R53's - and 8 people made the 130 MPH club. I did 132.06 and the fastest car was a mildly modified GP1 - 135 MPH. That year the salt was in the best shape it had been in 20 years - you could burn out - it was that hard.
The next year several other SCMM members brought out their R56's and all of them made the 130 MPH club, including two ladies - we call them Queens of the Salt!! The salt was mushy that year because they got rain just two weeks before the meet. In 2010 another SCMM member tried the 150 MPH club in his modified GP1 and did 143 MPH in 2 miles - needed more HP.
I tried the 150 MPH club in 2012 with my highly modified R53 - stroker 1800 cc engine - Rotrex S/C - tuned for 109 octane - meth injection is not allowed in this class -348 whp. The car was running OK but not great, the first two runs were in the high 130's to low 140's - on the 3rd run I did 144.02 but the S/C blew a bearing and I was done.
It sounds easy but it really is not. You have to get up to 5th gear as soon as you can - not fluff any shifts - and then shift to 6th and wait as you try to put the power down - the 2 mile mark comes up way too soon!! My car is extremely stable at that speed - I can take my hands off the wheel and it does not wander. The amount of rain they get during the summer greatly affects the surface and Bonneville is at 4219 elevation - you have to tune for that - the barometric pressure has an affect also. I was sure I had all that covered, but a mechanical problem put me out.
Anyway, I could not get out there this year, but I will try for the 150 MPH club again next year - I am changing from the early 6 speed Getrag to the later one with different ratios. The MINI is an aerodynamic brick but there are a few things you can do that help - more HP always helps!!
I would suggest that anybody with a MINI try to do the 130 MPH club, or just go out to Bonneville to watch The World of Speed, you will have a great time. It is not that expensive to do , you can stay at the Rainbow Casino in Wendover for less than $50 per night.

I've reached 130mph in my '08 MCS before better judgment kicked in. Probably good for 140. You just never know if there's a "Statie" sitting and waiting for an ***-clown like myself to blast by. I've been driving like an "enthusiast"(understatement) for 15 years now and have never gotten a single speeding ticket. On the rare occasion I do get pulled over they let me go due to no "priors". And yes, luck. I plan on keeping it that way! But I know it's coming to me someday.... sigh

R55 was more stable. The R56 with 3 people in it was almost as stable at speed.
