The R58 feels a bit more stable then the R56. It might be me or something but thats the way it felt.

I agree with you. I drove the R58 for an hour and it felt super stable compared to my R56 before I lowered it at high speeds.

Supposed to be limited at 147. My tuned removed the limiter.
I've personally hit 154mph in my car and it kept pulling. Wasn't even a struggle for my Mini to get up there.

There were four Mini's on the run, and I'm last in line. Somewhere between Eureka and Ely, we catch a truck doing about 70MPH on level road. When its my turn to pass it, I decide to pass everyone else too. As I get around the first Mini in line, I'm at 5 - 6K RPM, in 5th gear (stick shift) and the digital speedo shows 129. Still pulling strong, but the spouse is white-knuckled so I back off.

Now this Mini is mod'd more than most, and I don't recommend others try matching this or other claims listed here, especially on any other public hiway!

I'm posting this to ask if anyone knows of a place that conducts speed trials, such as the Bonneville Salt Flats. I've researched Bonneville, but they are too restrictive with run class requirements. I expect to break out of their 130 MPH class which disqualifies the car and no "time slip" or run record is issued. Their 160 MPH class requires a roll bar, fire suit, and 4 or 5 point seat harness, none of which I'm willing to install or buy for a 1-day run. I'm looking for an "independent and accurate" source of speed in a "flying mile", or at least a top speed in the attempt.

Anyone?

MINI top speed

One of our SCMM members did 148 in 1.5 miles on cement at the Mojave Airport in his highly modified 2006 GP 2 years ago. Their general car rules are not quite as restrictive as the Bonneville 150 MPH club as far as fire suits and neck restraints, but the tire tech is more restrictive. They did not run this event last year - they are this year but they have raised the entry fee to over $500 per day and capped the event at 60 entrants - you will get more runs.

The problem at Mojave has typically been that it is still in the morning and you get good runs starting at 8 AM, but by 12 noon to 1 PM the wind comes up and it is a cross wind so they stop running for safety. Many cars and bikes run over 200 MPH there - I ran 139 in the mile there 4 years ago in my highly modified R53 and 144 at Bonneville in 2 miles at 4239 foot altitude. Doing those kind of speeds on the street is just not safe- we don't have Autobahns in the US.

Thats a pretty fast GP, think the JCW Coupe that I had when it came out had the highest top speed at the time. 149 0r 151 in some reports.

This is a "cross-country" event --- not what I'm looking for.

I just finished checking the SCMM web site, but find no reference to the Mojave 2018 event. Would you please provide info on who produces this event? I'm looking for something similar to the U.S. Mile events in TX, AR, and CO --- standing start ½ or full mile, but closer to Reno, NV. I can live with only a couple runs in Mojave, even at $500.
