R56 Brake Service
Brake Service
Check out the video of the error I get when starting my MINI. I can't seem to understand from the manual what is going on. Does this mean that the wear sensors are tripped and pads need replaced? It doesn't seem to distinguish between front or rear pads though. Is it just a pre-programmed service indicator meaning I should perform scheduled maintenance? The BRAKE light will stay on during the time the car is running, but the 'mini on ramps' icon will go away. Thanks for any input!
Thanks for the information. I had checked the fluid after it came on, it looked pretty full. The brake light and the service icon both came on at the same time. It came on while I was driving. I'll try the procedure to clear the service notification.
did you go thru all the screens under the service menu on the OBC?
This usually reveals which warning has been triggered . . .
for example there is a brake fluid change warning that comes on when MINI decided you needed to change the fluid. LOOKING AT IT will not clear this warning, nor even if is low, will filling it. The warning is 100% based on TIME. You CAN clear it yourself ... but it helps to determine which of the MANY alerts is activating. Another is the simple "XXX miles service" .... many of these can be ignored if you so choose, and the counter reset. (and ALL of this is in the owner's manual)
For example there are counters for the brakes, as well as sensors (GEN2). Your counter MAY activate b4 your sensor trips ... WAY B4. You really want to know WHICH one trips B4 you spend $ for new pads and rotors based on a counter ...DON'T foolishly go to the dealer and say "what does this warning mean?" ... U may leave dealer $500 to $800 lighter in the pocket even tho you NEEDED nothing
I reset my brake counter and drove another year b4 the wear sensor tripped.

Thanks for the info. I do know that some warnings are timed and some are sensor-based. Cycling through, it seems that the rear pad sensor must be tripped. The rear brake icon stays red, all others are amber. I am assuming that means the rear pad sensor is tripped and they need to be replaced.
