Use the attached link for what you have to take off, very simple to do. I replaced mine a few weeks ago. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-pictures.html

Replacement of the battery is easy to do, but almost everyone forgets to register it. You can only get it done at the dealer though... Over time your vehicles computers become accustomed to the low-voltage output of your old battery, and some things may not work properly because the vehicle is trying to conserve power for the more vital components. Registering your battery lets the vehicle know that a new battery has been installed, and all components can work at full power.

You do not need to register your battery on your 07 MINI. Just installed one on our 08 & registration was not needed.

Thanks looks simple enough. Should be able to get that done in a half an hour. Just need to get in doors. Too cold and windy here today.

There is a lot of opinions on this forum about registering the battery. I replaced the battery myself with NAPA's version (vented and proper CCA). I did not have it registered because I considered it hoopla. I mean a car so smart should know the condition of the battery regardless of age and registration. But of course three months later my NAPA battery junk. NAPA batteries are not bad I have one in my BMW pushing 5 years not a problem. I got a replacement and had the battery registered and at this point no problems. Could be a coincidence but I doubt it. If BMW requires this I suspect it is necessary. It is the cost that stinks. We program the heck out of our cars to get 1 additional horsepower why not let your mini know you just treated it to a nice new battery?

Well, opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one. And that's fine. They are your vehicles, you all can do what you like with them. However, I am trying to help you all by giving the correct information that these forums lack. It cracks me up reading half of the crazy nonsense people preach/ believe on here. My post isn't an opinion. It is a fact. I am not telling you guys "I think" you should register your battery. I am telling you that you ARE supposed to do it after you replace the battery as per MINI instruction. Sure, its a dumb design. A vehicle this smart shouldn't need a battery to be registered, it should automatically see a higher voltage. But at the dealership, for customer pay AND warranty, we register the batteries because we are instructed by MINI to do so. Period.

As long as the MINI does not have an intelligent battery sensor (IBS) there is no need to register the battery. It is the black plastic piece on the negative terminal & looks like the picture.
