2013 Mini Cooper Oil Change - No o-ring?

Quick Oil Change Q - do the 2013s not have a cooper crush o-ring that comes off for the oil drain plug? I've done this a few times for my 08, but first time changing the 2013's - I'm confused - if this is the o-ring already on the piece, I def can't get it off.

Resolved - it was the crush washer, stuck on the plug. Had to get it off with a knife. Not sure why the side of it were black.

well, the picture is a little fuzzy but if that's a used one on there, and by the color I'd say that is a good possibility, I've NEVER seen one that mashed!

My first thought is the color was just residue ....

Other thought: did you drop it in the dirty oil ... a booboo?

it's almost like it was crushed on there, and then some of the black paint got on it or something... i dont think it was dropped in the oil - it either didn't have one from the factory, or this is it on there and it's stuck

well the stories of WAY over torqued drain plugs on the GEN1 fill many pages here on NAM. Fortunately for GEN2 owners, if you use the proper tool - an allen wrench or socket - it is much easier to remove a too tight plug w/out doing damage. (warning, an early DIY guide mis-identifies the fitting as TORX) {GEN1 too tights see pipe wrenches, cheap sockets and all manner of things which eventually destroy the bung. PLUS the recommended metric size is WRONG .... the GEN1 bung is a PERFECT 1/2 inch

When I last removed the plug on my 7 ... it was hard to tell the new ring from the used ring ... and nothing ever dripped . . . I think the torque is supposed to be 20 or less, but for me that's one soft ugh . . . in other words the washer should be slightly crushed ... not pressed like the Fly!! {plus two points to the first person that correctly identifies the reference ... by actor (the fly), original movie}

In retrospect, I think I had to slip a blade under my original to pop it off as well.

Glad it worked out and thank you for telling us how it worked out. Too many folks fail to give us closure on issues.

yea thanks no problem - it was the first oil change since I received the car, so that must have been how it came from the factory
