Need some advice

I bought a 2013 MCS at the end of June this year. I don't drive very long distances but really enjoy Sully's acceleration and ride. I now have 3000 miles on it and I was planning on having an oil change at 5000 miles but it will be almost a year before I get to that point. The car computer is set for oil change at 10,000 miles or one year (June 2014). Should go ahead and pay for an oil change now and the have the free one in 6 months or just wait until next year?

Yep, I'd get one now. I did my first change at 1500 miles, and again at 6500, the low mileage free yearly at 9500, since then it works out to every 6000 miles.
Oil analysis shows I could easily go to 8000 now. ( which I will)

People have reported that some dealers won't want to do a free oil change once a year if the OBC doesn't say so and that is based on mileage only. Oil change is pretty simple, I suggest researching and DIY; you'll save yourself money in the end too.

If a dealer says that, call MINI USA. It's clearly covered, and the dealer will get paid. (which is about the only thing they really care about.)

KilmerPT not sure where you're hearing that but the CBS lists a mileage and date for oil changes

With the issues these cars have with sludge build up, oil consumption, timing component failure, turbo failure, and so on, why would you wait? My wife and I both drive a MCS, and the oil gets changed at 3-4k. It's cheap insurance.

Sure, BMW says 10k, but we all know they're full of it.

For a short while in 2010 or 11 MINI stopped paying for the annual oil change and then resumed when customers complained. They earlier had tried the same thing with BMW with the same result.

If you want to keep the car - do an oil change at least every 6K miles (mileage based on my MCS Blackstone lab analysis results) or once a year. Pay for the service out of picket (synthetic oil only!) or DIY. Do not touch the computer - wait for it to tick by to get your free oil change from the dealer later.

If you leased the car and intend to return it in 3 years to the dealer - who cares.
