service light on for brake fluid flush?

Hello All,

I have an '09 R56 Base Hardtop Manual Trans and my service light is on. Mini dealer says it's time for an brake fluid flush and cabin air filter change for a cost of $310. I go to my regular non-mini garage and my trustworthy guy can do it for $100. But he finds out before doing the work that even with his equipment he will not be able to turn the light off after he's done. He has been able to do the same work and reset the light on many BMW's he's done but can't on my Mini. Anyone know of any way around this without having to pay Mini the extra money for them to do it? Would appreciate any info and help.

Thanks,

Tailgunner

I did some searching and found this -

I think it was to reset a different service due, but should get you started..

$310 for a brake fluid flush? It's no wonder dealers have horrible reputations. These are not advanced level procedures and most DIY'ers can do this in about 30 mins.

You can do a brake flush yourself if you feel up to it, not difficult but there are some important notes about the process. Check out our instructions on the topic for further insight: Bleeding MINI Brakes

Wow $310, for that you can drive to Atlanta and have us do it. But that isn't necessary have your local guy do it. Then you can go into the Set/Info in the Tach and reset it, no special tools needed.
Also you can get the Bentley Manual which gives you all these instructions.

Does this work on 2012 model years? I just tried to see if I could get to the reset menu but all goes well until the part where the time is supposed to show just prior to the release and re-press of the right button. I only get a display of 0 MPH and not the time. I still tried to release and re-press the right button but it never shows the reset menu as described.

Two local mechanics will do the brake and clutch flush on my 2008 for $130, air cabin filter is special order from any auto parts chain for under $30 for the nice Heppa one, $20 for paper. I can reset my service indicator from the stalk, sorry, don't know about 2012 models.
