R56 Strange boost loss '11 MCS
Strange boost loss '11 MCS
So it was raining HEAVY tonight on the drive home from work. I was taking it easy trying to see the lines on the road and pretty much stayed out of the throttle for obvious reasons. I dropped a co-worker off who lives near me and by that time the rain had pretty much died off so I decide to wind second gear out a little. As soon as it hit about 10psi the engine light flashed and power reduced significantly. This obviously scared me to death, but the strange thing is the light went off after a couple of seconds and the SGII shows no codes. The only thing is, there was no more boost. It's like the car went into limp mode but didn't store a code...? I pulled off first chance I got and checked a few things. The air filter was a little wet, but I am fairly certain that's just water that rolled off of the hood as it opened. The engine bay was dry other than that. I got back in, started it back up, and gave it a quick rev to redline....boost is back, or at least seems to be. I didn't want to pull any boost with any amount of water on the filter (oiled or not, it seemed like a bad idea) so I just took it easy the rest of the way home. Anyone have any ideas?
Gremlins...
Water and the modern car do not mix.
I drove a Benz in Germany recently that decided the hood was open, shut off the power steering, and the wipers... ...Well, the sensor seemed to work off and on more or less.
Once the rain stopped, all went back to normal, and forget any codes! The rental company said sorry, but what more could I honestly expect given the car now worked fine!

I'd keep an eye on it, report it to the dealership next time you have it in, but otherwise, motor on!
